Fiber optic cable is a bundle of flexible and transparent fibers made by drawing glass (silica). Each fiber’s diameter is slightly thicker than a human hair. Because of its high transparency, fibers are mostly used for transmiting illumination and image. And they are often wrapped in bundles, in order to carry enough light into, or images out of confined spaces.

In medical application, Fiber optic cable is used to connect between endoscope and cold light source, to provide illumination during minimally invasive surgery. The typical diameter of fiber cable is 8mm, while the common length could be 1.8m, 2.5m and 3.0m. It is an important accessory of medical endoscope camera system.
